The day that you ask your significant other to spend the rest of his/her life with you is so special! It’s a day you will remember and talk about for the rest of your lives so I hope you take the time to put together a day that you can both look back on and smile about.
If, when, and how you propose to your significant other all depends on you two and what you both want. You don’t have to propose, you can keep it very low key, or you can go all out! There is no right way to do it. Sit down and ask yourself, does this mean anything to me? will this mean anything to my partner? how do we want to remember this day?
I have scoured through Pinterest and shared some of my favourite proposal ideas below! You can put your own personal touches to any of these ideas. I hope they inspire you when you start planning your special day!
1. While Travelling
Bala proposed to me while we were traveling in Kerala! I can’t think of a better time to propose to your significant other than while you are on vacation. You get the chance to sit back and relax afterwards and take everything in- just the two of you.
2. In a Photo Booth!
I think this is one of the cutest proposal ideas I have come across! I have never seen a proposal like this until I stumbled upon this picture thanks to Pinterest!
3. Ask her over for a backyard movie night!
When it’s time to lay back and watch the movie, display the words “Will You Marry Me?” on the screen! You can create a slideshow of pictures or write a sweet note to play on the screen before you pop the question.
4. Plan a scavenger hunt
As someone that loves playing board games, this idea sounds like such a fun time to me! You can leave clues in some of your partner’s favourite places around the city or if you live together, you can plan a scavenger hunt right in your home! However, if you are hoping that the proposal will be a complete surprise to your significant other, this might not be the route to take. If Bala did this for me I would have known that he was up to something! If you’re planning a scavenger hunt around the city, I think it’s a good idea to ask his/her closest friends to accompany them- it will make the day more fun for your significant other!
5. During a photoshoot!
One of the biggest giveaways when proposing to your significant other is when you insist that they dress nice or the likelihood that they will catch a glimpse of the photographer! A photoshoot proposal will cut a lot of those worries away so you can focus on that special moment and on what you want to say to your partner. You will also be able to capture their initial raw reaction in a photo!
6. Include the family
If family is really important to your significant other, invite them to be their during the proposal or ask them to come by afterwards! You can even ask them to be a part of it by, for example, letting them hold up a “Will You Marry Me?” sign!
7. Add personal touches
You can add personal touches to the proposal by hanging pictures of you both, writing a note for them to read before you get down on your knees, or taking them to the spot where you had your first date! There are lots of ways to add personal touches to the day.
8. While doing something she loves
Make a list of all of your partner’s favourite things to do or places to be. Do they love working on puzzles? Get a “Will You Marry Me?” puzzle made that you can put together during date night. Do they love to hike? Ask your friends and family to set up something pretty somewhere along your favourite trail (somewhere not too far away from the start so they are not out of breath and sweaty by the time you get to the spot).
9. Somewhere pretty
You can’t go wrong with a pretty location or a pretty set up. It will also make for some beautiful engagement photos that you can keep with you forever!
10. Lights, lots of lights!
Incorporating fairy lights into your proposal set up will make it look and feel even more magical!
